Abstract

Aim: To study a case of Eccrine spiradenoma which was diagnosed as adnexal tumour on cytology with high suspicion of Eccrine spiradenoma.

Presentation of Case: We report a case of a 36 year old female with a painful lesion on her arm of 1 month duration. Cytology revealed clusters and acinar groups of tumour cells along with eosinophilic hyaline material. A provisional diagnosis of adnexal tumor was given with high probability of Eccrine spiradenoma. It was confirmed on histopathological examination.

Discussion: Eccrine spiradenoma, an uncommon adnexal tumor arises from the sweat glands. They are mostly benign and have been described as ‘Cystic epitheliomas of sweat glands’. They belong to the group of painful tumours of skin.

Conclusion: Eccrine spiradenomas have not been described extensively in cytological literature. Though difficult to diagnose on cytology, a diagnosis of Eccrine spiradenoma after careful evaluation of cytomorphological features.
