Abstract

Herbal medicine is the core of complementary and alternative medicine, which is gaining widespread popularity all over the world. About 80% of the population worldwide reckon on conventional medicines for basic health care necessities. As per the available information, three-quarters of the population depends mainly on the plants. The developed countries only constitute 30% of the total production while 80% supplied by the emerging countries of the Asian continent. These medicinal plants are proved to be beneficial and have minimal or no side effects. Since they have long term side effects so people are not aware of this. The tough time is that when the drug is using for so many decades but some facts are still missing and it can harm society. Majority of population has misconception that herbal formulation are free from side effects. . These formulation should be consumed after physician consulation. Since these formulation can result in serious drug interaction if consumed with allopathic medicines. While searching from the literature online data regarding pharmacological activities about the plants, recently, we found that one drug which is using from past so many years has their toxicity profile which is not commonly known. Glycyrrhiza glabra is one of the common drugs listed called licorice has a toxicity profile that has proven life-threatening. The study was aimed to create awareness among people regarding the over and reckless use of herbal formulation. The search for the review was performed on electronic databases using Pubmed and google scholar. The study was retrieved by customizing the databases to 10 years (2010-2020). The databases were queried using the keywords (licorice and pharmacological effects, licorice and toxicity, case studied. So based upon our ideas and viewpoint, we are exploring this drug only for the toxicity specific after metabolism
