Abstract

Introduction: Inflammation is the primary response of the immune system against harmful stimuli, such as microbes, damaged cells, toxic compounds, or irradiation, and it acts by removing injurious stimuli and initiating the process of healing. Vitis Vinifera contains several active components including flavonoids, polyphenols, anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, procyanidins, and the stilbene derivative resveratrol. Grape seed extract in particular has been reported to possess a broad spectrum of pharmacological and therapeutic effects such as antioxidative, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, as well as having cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective effects.

Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the anti inflammatory activity of grape seed extract using albumin denaturation assay

Materials and Methods: First, a concentrated solution of grape seed extract was made. This solution was then tested for its anti inflammatory activity using Albumin Denaturation Assay in different concentrations (10-50 ug/mL). The absorbance value was recorded at 660 nm.

Results: Grape seed extract, through this experiment, has been shown to have good anti inflammatory activity. It was shown to have better anti inflammatory properties than the standard which is diclofenac sodium. It also has fewer side effects than the standard. It contains Polyphenols, which is majorly responsible for this effect.

Conclusion: With increasing concentrations of grape seed extract, the absorbance rate increases at 660 nm, indicating that the %inhibition of GSE also increases in the same way.
