Abstract

In vitro and ex vitro rooting of micropropagated shoots were compared. For in vitro rooting, micropropagated shoots of strawberry cv. Chandler were transferred to MS medium of different nutrient strengths supplemented with IBA (1 mg/1) and charcoal (200 mg/1). Highest root induction frequency obtained was 95.23% on 1/4 MS medium with IBA (1 mg/1) and charcoal (200 mg/1). For ex vitro rooting, micropropagated shoots were prepared in three different ways: 1. Micropropagated shoots pretreated overnight with IBA. (2 mg/1). 2. Direct in vitro raised shoots. 3. One week-old in vitroshoots. All three types of shoots performed differently on different rooting mixtures like cocopeat, leafmould, cocopeat + leafmould, and sand: soil: FYM (1:1:1). For ex vitro rooting, only 4 weeks time required for root production whereas, 8 weeks needed for in vitro rooting.
