Introduction: Infertility remains one of the biggest challenges for couple to face, and it is estimated that about 18–20% of all couples in reproductive age are suffering from infertility problem; this is why infertility is now considered a major health issue. The objective of this study is to investigate and identify the different risk factors of infertility in women of reproductive age in Sidi Bel abbes West Algeria
Methods: To identify the different factors for infertility we did a prospective study using a special questionnaire including demographics, health’s and infertility factors to interview the women suffering from infertility, for a period of 4 months we interviewed a total of 322 infertile women, and the study was done in a private gynecology clinic of Sidi Bel Abbes (west Algeria)
Results: We found that the average age of infertile women is 31.58±6.4 years and the mean duration of infertility is 12.42±7.1 months, the average age of marriage is 26.65±8.8 years, concerning the different causes of infertility we found that 44.53% of cases had no known causes, 17.64% had urinary infection; and 9.24% of cases had ovarian failure; 7.56% had an advanced age >35 years.; and the presence of fibroids was an infertility causes in 5.88% of cases, in the entire study sample fibroid were representing a percentage of 12.29%. Other causes of infertility we found in our sample were disorders of menstruation representing a percentage of 5.04% from all the different causes, and 48.36% of all the patient had menstrual disorders, we also found a high percentage of patients suffering from polycystic ovary 30.83%, the rate of endometriosis was lower with only 6.61% of all the patient suffering from this disease.
Conclusion: The result of our study shows that 44% of women suffering from infertility had unknown causes, this number is high and further investigation on the different causes of infertility should be done in our region.
